AN INTRODUCTION

Our Team

As with all good businesses, we are nothing without the dedication and support of each and every team member. The team creates the atmosphere that provides the backbone for our excellent customer service, enabling Peter Graham to be the No1 wine specialist in East Anglia.

To give you a flavour of Team PG, we asked each member 3 quick-fire questions. Please see below for a little more on each person and their interesting answers!

LOUISA TURNER

Managing Director

Louisa, what do you like best about working in the wine trade?

“Having only ever had experience in drinking wine before starting the business in 1997 with Graham Donaldson I had to learn very quickly on the shop floor! First reading Oz Clarke and then progressing to the likes of Hugh Johnson and Jancis Robinson. But the best knowledge can only be gained from visiting the wineries and this we did with such passion and abandon that it became an obsession! This gave me the experience and confidence to know how to source our own brands and agencies, all of which we ship direct and exclusively. However the greatest joy of all is being able to share them with my customers and watch their delight in finding new treasures as much as I do.”

What is your favourite wine and why?

“Gosh a tricky one! I think it would have to be Sherry as all bar the sweetest being made from the same Palomino grape. It displays such diversity from the dry, saline and yeasty Manzanilla to the sweet, nutty and oxidised Oloroso – not forgetting the elusive and accidental Palo Cortado in between! For the red it would have to be Nebbiolo from Piedmonte, notoriously difficult to grow requiring precision engineering and a lot of patience before bottling and after! When a Barolo is ‘in forma’ there is no red in existence that has the same amount of perfume and high acidity to balance the strong tannins giving one of the most tantalising wines.”

Tell us one little nugget of information about yourself?

“I worked on a prawn trawler in the Gulf of Carpentaria for 18 months, often not setting foot on land for three months at a time. The sea was wet but the boat was dry and to retain my grape quota and sanity I had to smuggle cooking brandy on board hidden in the stores!”

PAUL PRIME

Operations Manager

Paul, what do you like best about working in the wine trade?

"It’s an interesting industry to work in as you have a wide varietal of people to deal with on a day
to day basis and I also find it a good discussion point when socializing – especially if you add cheese into the equation!"

What is your favourite wine and why?

"Rioja was one of the first red wines I was introduced to when travelling as a younger adult in Spain, which I really enjoyed at the time, and has remained a favorite together with an good full bodied Australian Shiraz being up there too. It’s deep reds for me."

Tell us one little nugget of information about yourself?

"I had the real pleasure of having a drink at the UEA bar with world cricketing legends Ian ‘Beefy’ Botham and ‘King’ Viv Richards when they were touring the UK several years ago – I did end up having to buy the drinks though!"

DEB LACEY

Tell us one little nugget of information about yourself?

"I am obsessed with decorating! We usually do our whole house top to bottom every 18 months.
It’s my way of relaxing in between work and looking after our 3 kiddies. I usually do it with a glass
of wine in my hand – now that is a skill!"

Not got one wrong yet, that I know about!"

JASON BANNER

Sales Director

Jason, what do you like best about working in the wine trade?

"Having stumbled into the wine trade in 1990 with no experience or understanding of wine, it has managed to keep me intrigued and surprised at every turn. My work with large national and regional groups and individually run bars, pubs, restaurants and hotels over the last 27 years has given me a unique understanding of how and why people buy wine, whether it’s how the list is structured to what’s on trend. Using the latest wine analysis information we can create lists and planning for any size of business."

What is your favourite wine and why?

"What is your favourite wine?  Often a question I’ve asked - and been asked!
With anything in life your views or taste vary over time, and are dependent on the situation.  My favourite wine is one with like-minded people whose faces light up
when something cracking is opened. Being pushed I would say my favourite grapes
are Chenin Blanc for its versatility and Pinot Noir for its elegance."

Tell us one little nugget of information about yourself?

"Life would be very dull with only wine. To help keep the wine and food calories off,
I cycle around the flat lands of Cambridgeshire, come rain or shine, and have entered
the Ely Half Iron Man in August 2017."

ANDY GASKIN

Business Development Director

Andy, what do you like best about working in the wine trade?

“I love working in the wine trade because of the diversity. No two wines, or wineries or vintages or even customers are exactly alike so it’s almost impossible to learn everything or to get bored.”

What is your favourite wine and why?

“My favourite wine? I couldn’t answer that any more than tell you who my favourite family member was! But seeing as you’ve offered I’ll take a rich spicy northern Rhone, the perfect antidote to a cold winter’s evening and a good match for barbequed meat in the summer. Something from Cote Rotie will do nicely!”

Tell us one little nugget of information about yourself?

“When I’m not working or drinking wine I like to scuba dive and play golf. On reflection I probably could have chosen some cheaper hobbies but life is for living after all!”

KASIA BAILEY

Customer Liaison Manager

Kasia, what do you like best about working in the wine trade?

"The inside knowledge on great wines is awesome for keeping your personal wine rack filled with great wines and your friends think you're super classy!"

What is your favourite wine and why?

"I love red wines, especially Malbec and Rioja. Quoting Mick Hucknall 'I like red wine because it's more sophisticated, more complex and mature. It's a bit like me, no longer young but not old yet either!'

Tell us one little nugget of information about yourself?

"I'm originally from Poland and can speak English and Polish fluently, but can also speak elements of German, Rusian, Slovakian and Mandarin. I love learning new things."
